Law enforcers unite to combat terrorism

The National Police, the Indonesian Military (TNI), and the Attorney General's Office met on Monday to improve coordination in the fight against terrorism.

Coordinating Minister for Political and Legal Affairs Djoko Suyanto said acts of terror could be committed by anyone at any time and in any place.

"We need to coordinate so that local law enforcers can detect indications of terrorism more accurately in their respective areas," he said at the meeting.

Djoko added that coordination would enable law enforcers to carry out their tasks, such as making arrests, with greater ease.

Other law enforcers who attended the meeting included TNI chief Adm. Agus Suhartono, National Police chief Gen. Timur Pradopo and Deputy Attorney General Darmono.

The top enforcers are to give instructions to local law enforcers, especially those responsible for 14 terrorist "lairs": Aceh, North Sumatra, Riau, South Sumatra, Lampung, Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Yogyakarta, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara and East Kalimantan, on ways to combat terrorism.
